Colouring with Prismacolor Pencils

I received a tin of 132 Prismacolor Pencils with 50 sheets of white Mi-Teintes paper for Christmas

Wow, how lucky am I!  How do I use these?

I am a marker girl and pencils are foreign to me.  Other than using white or black to highlight areas coloured with Copic markers, pencils weren't in the equation.  Previous to receiving this gift, a small 24 set of pencils had been gathering dust in the corner of the craft room with only the white and black used.

Well, that is about to change!  I have signed up for the monthly Pencil class at Kit and Clowder.  Now I will be doing both the Marker and Pencil classes.

The Pencil class image for December was so cute I decided to start my learning process with it.  Who doesn't like a cute teddy bear holding flowers!

I have lots to learn when colouring with pencils. So many layers are used to build shadows, highlights and flatten paper tooth. Breaking down the image and colouring in steps is the way to go for me. My hands need a break in between all the layering.
